About IG

Who We Are

The Institute of Genetics (IG) is one of the 13 virtual institutes that make up the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

The IG community is made up of researchers, scientists, community groups, and individuals from Canada and around the world who share an interest on the human and model genomes and in all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry and cell biology related to human health and disease, including interaction of genes with physical and social environments. A highly respected Scientific Director and a small, professional staff manage IG day-to-day activities. A dedicated Institute Advisory Board (IAB) as well as Priority and Planning Committees provide essential input and guidance into everything we do.

What We Do

As one of the 13 Institutes of CIHR, the IG shares responsibility for achieving the principal objectives of CIHR.

IG supports research on the human genome and in all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry and cell biology related to human health and disease, including interaction of genes with physical and social environments. More details can be found under research priorities.

The IG has undertaken a range of activities to build research capacity and strengthen existing research communities.

The Annual New Principal Investigators Meeting is an event that the IG initiated and has committed to support on a continuous basis.

A broad variety of workshops and symposia hosted by the IG bring together a wide variety of partners, stakeholders and organizations that make up the IG community.

Since its inception, IG has contributed to a number of research achievements. Please see our publications section for more details.
