Pathways Annual Gathering 2017

Co-hosted by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), the 3rd Pathways Annual Gathering took place in the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council under the theme: “Gender inclusivity as a foundation for building healthy communities”.

This gathering brought together key participants, including community members, researchers, CIHR partners, National Indigenous Organizations (NIOs), and CIHR staff involved in the Pathways to Health Equity for Aboriginal Peoples’ initiative (Pathways), to encourage respect for and inclusion of Indigenous Ways of Knowing in the work of the Pathways funded projects and to support networking and community building.

Objectives

The objectives of the 2017 Pathways Annual Gathering were:

  1. Promoting equity: To promote health equity through inclusivity of sex and gender in health research.
  2. Preparing for scale up: To support and prepare for scale up of community-driven research centered on Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being through moving knowledge into action. 
  3. Strengthening relationships: To strengthen linkages between Pathways communities and partners through knowledge sharing and learning.
  4. Mentoring: To foster the next generation of Indigenous health researchers through capacity building and mentorship.
