Message from the President – National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week (April 7-13) provides all Canadians with an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the volunteers who work each day to strengthen our communities and our country.

Canada’s health research enterprise relies heavily on volunteerism. From reviewing proposals for funding, to providing advice on research ethics, to reviewing manuscripts for publication – volunteers provide invaluable services that help to ensure the success and sustainability of our research ecosystem. At CIHR, we also rely on the expertise of volunteers to inform our strategic directions, funding policies, and frameworks, as well as to promote collaboration between the agency and the research community.

On behalf of CIHR, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the thousands of peer reviewers and other volunteers who donate their time and effort to support health research excellence in Canada.

Michael J. Strong, MD, FRCP, FCAHS, FAAN
President, CIHR
